A Multi-Sensory Experience Beyond the Gastronomical

Tucked away on the corner of Tai Ping Shan Street, the newly-opened Nordic fine dining restaurant Embla offers innovative and naturally-sourced dishes inspired by a philosophy of Swedish gastronomy. Led by Executive Chef Jim Lofdahl, Embla is his new creative endeavour to share both passion and heritage with new and old customers. An escape from the hustle of Hong Kong, what sets Embla apart from its competitors is their warmth, proving an escape from the hustle of Hong Kong for a slow-paced, relaxed environment illustrative of the Nordic lifestyle.

House of Forme worked with the client on their brand concept, visual identity, online and offline branding collaterals, and production management.

Deeply Rooted in Nordic Culture

Embla’s visual identity is based upon cycles of creation and renewal, derived from the Norse legend of the first man and woman on earth, Askr and Embla. The brand mark serves as a visual reference to the tree trunks from which Askr and Embla were carved from, whilst its roots reference traditional representations of Norse mythology’s ‘Yggdrasil’, the Tree of Life that binds the cosmos together.

The main lock-up also features a minimalistic, custom typeface outlined from roots, vines, and tree branches, creating a consistent design narrative right down to the smallest details.

As Natural as the Changing of the Seasons

Visually dynamic in form and color, our collateral designs are interchanged according to each season. Utilising a secondary color palette of earth tones, every menu and its ingredients transition along nature’s cyclical seasons. Inspired by the serene natural landscape of Norway, beiges and deep blues reinforce Embla’s connection to Norway, accented with copper foiling and abstracted woodblock patterns. Refined touches such as embossing effects and textured paper stock are minimally applied, highlighting a multi-sensory experience at Embla.

Consistently Thoughtful Designs Online and Offline

Featuring rounded edges and woodblock patterns, Embla’s identity is cohesively aligned across online and offline collaterals, creating a systematic visual language that immediately connects with the user. Presenting an effortless and minimal online experience that mirrors the Nordic lifestyle and appreciation of natural simplicity.
